I'm not sure if I'm the only one, but watching renovation shows on television often leaves me feeling like I'm just not keeping up. Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of a full kitchen or bathroom renovation in which everything comes together, and problems are solved, in a litter less than 30 minutes. Thos TV contractors turn out some seriously complex renovations in what feels like less time than the average lunch break.
Having been behind the scenes on the set of a few TV shows, I know there is a lot left out. The fact is, the crews that pull off those impressive renovations are forced to deal with the same laws of physics and time that the rest of us are. Paint takes the same amount of time to dry, tiles don't magically fit wherever we lay them and not every product is available and in stock on the shelves at the local home-improvement store. Post-production editing compresses time and cuts out the work done by several, sometimes dozens of helpers over many days, sometimes weeks.
